Social media is a powerful connection point in our culture. Virtually everyone is virtually connected these days, so why not use the visual power of these kinds of communication channels to initiate conversations about the most important message in the worldāthe gospel?
Images are an effective passageway into our hearts and souls. They can evoke powerful emotions and trigger thought-provoking conversations. In recent years, photos posted on social media have changed the course of revolutions, social movements and our human response to tragedies that have struck both around the world and in our own backyard. Similarly, they can provide a gateway into a spiritual conversation that may change someoneās lifeāboth now and for all eternity.

Challenge your teens to post a spiritually thought-provoking photo and caption on social media this week to engage their friends in deeper conversations about God.
This week, get your studentsā creative juices flowing and challenge them to do an online image search for a few striking photos that they could use to initiate conversations about some of the ābig questionsā of life. Or better yet, if you have some students who are aspiring photographers, challenge them to share some of their own photos with the rest of the group that might be helpful in initiating a thoughtful spiritual conversation when posted with one of the following questions as the photoās captionā¦
- Have you ever wondered about God?
- Is there a God?
- Are you happy with your life right now, or are you searching for something more?
- What do you think God is like?
- Why are we here, anyway?
- What do you most long for out of life?
- Where are you with God right now?
- Whatās your spiritual journey been like so far?
Equip your students to know how to follow up these kinds of questions with a conversation about Jesusā message of hope and grace. Prepare them to respond with grace and sensitivity when someone engages them in dialogue about their photo. Challenge them to come back to youth group next week ready to share what they tried and how it went.
